SUV driver still at large after police chase ends at Slate Run Apts.

STAFF REPORT

bardstownpolicepatchOct. 22, 2013, 1:15 p.m. — A Bardstown Police officer’s traffic stop turned into a vehicle and foot pursuit Monday night just before midnight.

Bardstown Police Officer Reece Riley attempted to stop a white 2000 GMC Envoy SUV with an expired license tag on Bloomfield Road at about 11:55 p.m. Tuesday night. The driver of the Envoy failed to immediately stop, but pulled into the American Fuji Seal parking lot pretending to stop before turning around, exiting the lot and speeding north on Bloomfield Road.

Riley pursued the Envoy north until the SUV tried to turn left onto Hill Street where it ran off the road into a ditch. As the vehicle was pulling out of the ditch, Riley’s cruiser struck the rear driver’s door of the Envoy, spinning both the Envoy and Riley’s cruiser. The Envoy turned north on Bloomfield Road before turning into Slate Run Apartments. The driver sped to the rear of the complex and bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot. The Envoy rolled on into a fence and struck a building.

Witnesses said the driver fled on foot toward Presidential Estates. Officers from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police assisted Bardstown officers in the search for the driver. A K-9 unit tracked the driver in the general direction of Presidential Estates, but lost the track there.

Witnesses told police one or two subjects may have bailed out of the Envoy when it was on Hill Street. Police do not have a physical description of the driver or others who may have been in the vehicle.

Police were unable to locate the suspect but impounded the vehicle. Police ask that anyone with information regarding this incident contact the Bardstown Police,
(502) 348-6811, or Nelson County Dispatch, (502) 348-3211.
