Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, 11:30 p.m. — The Bardstown City Council meeting opened Tuesday’s meeting by honoring Boy Scout Dane Pike of local Troop 136. Pike recently completed his Eagle Scout rank, and Mayor Bill Sheckles and the council presented him with a certificate honoring his attainment of Scouting’s highest rank.

As part of Pike’s Eagle Scout project, he built two six-foot benches from cedar log for use at the Nelson County Early Learning Center.

COBEC LEASE. The council approved a lease agreement with Central Kentucky Community Action for three rooms and the basement of the City of Bardstown Education Center, the former OKH Middle School. Community Action will lease approximately 7-1/2 percent of the facility’s usable space.

WATER TANK PAINTING. The council approved bids to repair and repair the interior and exterior of the Boston and Botland water tanks. The bids from Utility Services Inc. to repaint the Botland tank ($116,500) and the Boston tank ($118,200) were the best and lowest bids, Civil Engineer Jessica Filiatreau told the council. Due to the weather, work may not begin on the tanks until next year.

TV SWEEP SERVICES. The council approved a bid from Jason Compton Co. for doing cable TV sweep services. The act of “sweeping” cable TV lines insures the system is operating a maximum efficiency. Compton’s bid was the only one received.

In other business, the council:

  • Approved Historic Review Board recommendations on exterior changes on five properties in the historic district;
  • Approved a five-year tax moratorium for a historic home undergoing improvements at 201 East John Fitch;
  • Approved the closure of the usual city streets for the 14th Annual Christmas Parade set for Dec. 5th;
  • Approved second and final reading of a rezoning request from Kinsmentu Inc. to rezone 9.55 acres of land along Old Bloomfield Pike from R-2 residential and I-2 industrial to R-3 multifamily district.

NEXT: The Bardstown City Council will meet next at 5 p.m. Nov. 5, 2013, for their monthly working session.
