JOSEPH DANIEL SMITH

Joseph Daniel Smith, 73, of Bardstown, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

He was born Aug. 31, 1940, in Holy Cross. He formerly worked as a machinist with B & B Screw Machine Specialist in Mount Washington. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Baptist by faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Ruth Metcalf Smith; and one sister, Beverly Humphrey.

Survivors include one daughters, Angie Bryant (Shane) of Mount Washington; one son, Danny Smith, Jr. of Louisville; two stepsons, Marty Whelan of Louisville and Tony Whelan of Munfordville; five sisters, Catherine Johnson and Anna Mary Nation, both of Taylorsville, Hazel Girtley of Bardstown, June Abston of Tennessee and Patsy Smith of Seymour, Ind.; five brothers, Sammy Smith and Tommy Smith (Phyllis), both of Bardstown, Bobby Smith (Henrietta) and Michael Smith, both of Tennessee, and Jim Smith of Ohio; three grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with Bro. Dale Decker presiding. Burial is in the Holy Cross Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct., 30, 2013, at the funeral home.

Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
