Local donations sought this month for Operation Christmas Child
Nov. 11, 2013, 11:30 p.m. — With Thanksgiving right around the corner, Nelson County families, businesses, schools and churches can put their gratitude in action and celebrate their blessings by giving back. Through Operation Christmas Child, individuals can join tens of thousands of people across the U.S. in filling empty shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and hygiene items for impoverished children around the world.
HOW TO PARTCIPATE. Click here for instructions on how to pack a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child.
Filled shoeboxes may be dropped off 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18-22 and 24, 2013, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday Nov. 23, 2013, at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown. The shoeboxes will be processed, prepared and transported to suffering children in more than 100 countries using whatever means necessary to get them into the hands of needy children.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of the international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan’s Purse, headed by Franklin Graham. It is the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind. Through the power of a simple gift and the message of hope through Jesus Christ, children learn they are loved and not forgotten.
By using special tracking technology, participants can “follow” their shoebox and discover the country in which their gift will be delivered to a child in need. To register your shoe box gift, use the “Follow Your Box” form online at www.SamaritansPurse.org/OCC.
