Candidates file to run for clerk, judge-exec, PVA, jailer and fiscal court

Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, 9 p.m. — Additional candidates submitted their filing papers for local offices this week in order to be on the May 2014 primary ballot.
JUDGE-EXECUTIVE. Dean Watts filed Thursday to run again as a Democrat to keep his elected office as Nelson County judge-executive. So far no other candidates for judge-executive have filed.
COUNTY CLERK. Elaine Filiatreau filed Friday to run as a Democrat to keep her seat as Nelson County Clerk. Filiatreau will complete her first term as Nelson County Clerk next year. Filiatreau won the Democratic primary four years ago, and went on to top Republican challenger Dwight Newton.
PVA. Barbara Tichenor, the incumbent property valuation administrator, filed her candidacy paperwork Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 to run for re-election as a Democrat.
Individuals who seek the office of PVA for the first time must first have passed the state PVA exam. Two Bardstown women recently passed the state PVA exam: Tracey L. Bonzo and Donna Lucille Molyneaux. Neither has yet to file to run for office. The deadline to file is 4 p.m. Jan. 28, 2014.
JAILER. Jailer Dorcas Figg filed her candidacy paperwork Thursday to keep her elected office as Nelson County Jailer. Figg filed as a Democrat.
MAGISTRATE D3. Incumbent Magistrate Bernard Ice filed his candidate paperwork on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, to keep his seat on Nelson Fiscal Court. Ice filed as a Democrat. So far he is unopposed for the Democratic nomination for his seat. The Democratic nominee will face Republican Jeffrey A. Cassel of Bardstown, owner of Kwik Kash Pawn & Gun.
