Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 — Pete Trzop, a Republican candidate for Nelson County judge-executive four years ago, filed today to seek the office again next year.

Trzop filed his paperwork with the Nelson County Clerk Friday morning.

In the 2010 General Election, Trzop lost in a three-way race for judge-executive that included longtime incumbent Democrat Dean Watts and former magistrate Tim Hutchins. Hutchins changed his party affiliation from Democrat to Independent, which allowed him to skip the primary ballot.

The 2010 race for judge-executive was a historic one in that it featured the first three-way race for judge-executive in the county as well as the first Republican candidate for the office.

In the general election, Watts and Hutchins split 73 percent of the vote, with Trzop receiving the remaining 27 percent.

Trzop’s father, Peter Trzop, was a candidate for Bardstown City Council in 2012.

The deadline to file for local partisan offices is 4 p.m. Jan. 28, 2014. The last day voters may register to vote in the May 2014 primary is April 21, 2014. The deadline for voters who wish to change their party registration is Dec. 31, 2013. For questions about your voter registration, contact the Nelson County Clerk’s office, (502) 348-1820.
