Freezing rain, sleet may create hazardous road conditions Friday morning
STAFF REPORT
Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, 2:15 a.m. — Rain, freezing rain and sleet overnight Thursday night will likely create some hazardous driving conditions in Nelson County by daybreak Friday morning. Total accumulation of one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch is possible overnight as the temperature hovers around 32 degrees.
Counties along the Ohio River and in Indiana will have more snow than rain and sleet Friday and into Saturday. Temperatures will be slightly warmer south of the river, with southern parts of Central Kentucky likely to see rain and possibly freezing rain. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Nelson and surrounding counties through 1 a.m. Saturday.
At 2 a.m. Friday, the weather station at the Nelson County Gazette indicated 32 degrees. The high for Friday is 34 degrees. Friday’s forecast is for more of the same — a 100 percent chance of rain, freezing rain and sleet before 4 p.m. As temperatures fall the wintry mix will shift toward freezing rain and sleet mixed with snow, with a possible accumulation total of up to 2 inches of snow and sleet by midnight tonight. Saturday will be mostly Sunny with a high of 27 degrees.
TRAVEL ADVISORY. Accumulation of freezing rain and sleet will make travel hazardous as some wet roadways may freeze late Friday night.
