Carbon dioxide leak closes Bardstown McDonald’s restaurant

fireshieldThursday, Dec. 12, 2013 — McDonald’s restaurant in Bardstown was shut down Thursday afternoon due to a carbon dioxide leak in the building’s basement.

The Bardstown Fire Department was called out at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday for what was believed to be active carbon dioxide leak in the basement. Firefighters arrived on scene and evacuated the restaurant. Crews wearing self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) entered the basement, located the leak and shut it off. The restaurant management contacted a company to repair the system. The Nelson County Health Department also responded to the scene.

Once firefighters stopped the leak they used their equipment to ventilate the building. The restaurant was closed until repairs are completed. Firefighters were on scene until about 3:30 p.m.
