Obituary: Russell Phelps Dixon, 84, Bardstown

RUSSELL PHELPS DIXON

Russell Phelps Dixon, 84, of Bardstown, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was a native of Madison County, a retired Master Sergeant who served 27 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Masons.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alene Thompson Dixon; his parents, Charles Dixon and Maggie Denney Dixon; and 12 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Dixon of Lexington and Betty (Richard) Hancock of Vine Grove; two grandchildren, Cassie and Rusty Edington; many nieces, nephews and family members; and his much-beloved beagle, Kelsey, that has been his faithful companion.

Private arrangements have been made and there is no public services.

Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown is in charge of arrangements.
