Bardstown man arrested after 6 pit bulls found in van without food, water

arrestTuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, 9:45 a.m. — A Bardstown man was arrested Monday night on animal cruelty charges after he left six pit bulls in a van without sufficient food and water.

At about 7:39 Monday night, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Purcell Avenue on a report of multiple dogs left in van at a residence. Officers found a green Chrysler van with the dogs inside. Police noted the dogs were fighting among themselves and had chewed up part of the van’s interior. No water or food was visible in the vehicle.

Nelson County Animal Control was contacted to take possession of the dogs. The van’s owner was contacted and was out of town at the time. When the owner, Charles A. Davis, 35, arrived at his home at 9:15 p.m., he was taken into custody. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
