WESLEY ADAM ‘WES’ CISSELL

Wesley Adam “Wes” Cissell, 34, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Bardstown, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1979, in Louisville. He was Director of Residential Life for North Broward Preparatory School.

He was a 1998 graduate of Nelson County High School where he was a member of the 1996 State Championship football team. While attending UK he was  mentored by Coach Bob Sphire while serving as a member of the football coaching staff at Lexington Catholic High School.

After college he coached at various high schools in Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida, including Camden County and North Gwinnett High School in Georgia, Trinity High School in Louisville, and North Broward Preparatory School in Florida. He was a member of the 2003 Camden County High School coaching staff when they captured the Georgia 5A State Championship title. Football and coaching remained an integral part of his life as he developed many deep friendships with his coaching friends and their families. He strived for excellence every day in himself and his students, as well as everyone he met.

He is survived by his parents, Frankie and Nancy Cissell of Bardstown; two brothers, Drew Cissell and Cole Cissell, both of Bardstown; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and close friends Maurice and Renee Dixon, and Troy and Colleen Hobbs.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Chris Rhodes will officiate.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, and 8-9:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown. A prayer service is 6 p.m. Friday.

Memorial contribution may go to Masses.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
