Obituary: Viola Florence Hoffman, 93, of Bardstown
Viola Florence Hoffman, 93, of Bardstown, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was born March 11, 1920, in Louisville to the late Joseph and Clara Mundy Schuler. She grew up in St. Matthews and graduated from Jeffersontown High School and later attended business school. On July 24, 1943 she married George N. Hoffman at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They lived in St. Matthews until 1954 when they moved to Bardstown and founded Hoffman Distributing Company. She was a loving wife and mother and was very active in many organizations. As a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she was their volunteer choir director for 18 years. She was a member of the Bardstown Music Club, Old Ky. Home Ladies Golf Club and Queen’s Daughters.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Alma Meisner, Lucille Wooldridge, Clara Bell and Joan Erhart.
She is survived by her husband, George Hoffman; four daughters, Kathy (Woody) Hahn of Hodgenville, Carolyn (Chet) Miller of Littleton, Colo., Mary (Alex) Hamilton of Louisville, and Virginia (Ginna) Schroeder of St. Louis; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her special helper, Rosie Newton; and her caregivers, Ruby Culver and family.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hammer officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown with prayers at 6 p.m. Monday
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Bethlehem High School.
