Obituary: Paul Lawrence Coomes, 76, Bardstown
Paul Lawrence Coomes, 76, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at his home. He was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Nelson County to the late James Felix and Mary Alma Goben Coomes. He was a retired employee of Armour Foods. He was a farmer, a member of the Kentucky Home Pork Producers and St. Gregory Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Rose Williams Coomes; and two sisters, Catherine Nash and Linda Sage.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula (Steve) Mattingly and Barbara (Stephen) Hutchins, both of Loretto; two sons, Jim (Anita) Coomes of Bardstown and Tom (Lynelle) Coomes of Fairfield; one sister, Gail Mudd of Cox’s Creek; two brothers, Bill (Pam) Wright of Cox’s Creek and Rick Wright of Commerce, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Shane Mattingly, Josh Mattingly, Charessa Coomes, Andrew Downey, Audrey Coomes, Holly Hutchins and Kelly Hutchins; one great-grandchild, Dean Mattingly; and Harvey (Wanda) Hayden Jr. of Bardstown who was just like a brother.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at St. Gregory Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Reverend Paul Eve will celebrate.
Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, and 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Friday.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
