KYLE BOBLITT

Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, 3:45 p.m. — Kyle Boblitt has been selected as the new head football coach for Thomas Nelson High School, Principal Wes Bradley announced today.

“Mr. Boblitt is a strong leader of young people and will build strong team culture … most importantly Kyle is a great human being that inspires others around him to continue to grow,” Bradley said.

Boblitt is an English teacher at Thomas Nelson with six years experience as an assistant football coach, including one with the Generals under former head coach Greg Brohm.

Boblitt is a Nelson County native and 1999 graduate of Nelson County High School where he was a running back on the Cardinals’ state championship team during his sophomore year. He went on to play as a scholarship athlete for Georgetown College, where he was part of that school’s NAIA national championship team in the 2000-2001 season.

“He has great energy and he understands the type of culture we want to emanate,” TNHS Athletic Director Sara Thurmond said of Boblitt. “He brings enormous enthusiasm and discipline to any football program. His past experience playing football at the high school and college levels, plus his experience coaching at the high school level make him a wonderful candidate.”

“I’m extremely excited,” Boblitt said. “And I’m really fortunate that Coach Brohm and the current parents and boosters have done a ton of work and worked so hard to make sure this thing got started right. I’m fortunate to build and grow on what they’ve already built.”

Another asset Boblitt said he can see at Thomas Nelson is the “strong culture and vision,” being developed there.

“Football is a great arena where you can see those core “LEADER” values and concepts come to life. You’re not going to be as good as you could be without everybody working together, and that goes back to those core values.”

Boblitt said he found a similar situation at both Nelson County and Georgetown when he was associated with those programs.

At Nelson County “I believe much of our success can be attributed to our team culture. we had a bunch of kids who played as a team. It was a group of kids and coaches that cared about one another.”

“At Georgetown it was a similar story. We had strong team culture. We were a family. We believed in each other. The coaches believed in us and we believed in them. I look forward to working with coaches, players, and parents to build a similar team culture at TNHS” Boblitt said.

A reception for the new coach is planned for 6:00 PM, February 5, in the TNHS Cafeteria.
