Obituary: Charles Donald ‘Don’ Hughes, 81, Loretto
Charles Donald “Don” Hughes, 81, of Loretto, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at his home. He was born Aug. 14, 1932, in Marion County. He was a farmer and former employee of Owens-Illinois Company in Bardstown. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a great husband, dad, grandpa and man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Celeste Costello Hughes; one daughter, Donna Beaven; one grandson, Derek Hutchins; one brother, Mike Hughes; and one sister, Dorothy Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nell Walker Hughes; four daughters, Monica Morgeson (Bobby) of Lebanon, Marcia Yates (Terry) and Mary Kay Hutchins (Tony), both of Loretto, and Rita Phillips (Rick) of Chicago; five sons, Ed Hughes (Diane) of Loretto, Rick Hughes (Susan) of Louisville, Michael Hughes (Robyn)and Todd Hughes (Jami), both of Bowling Green and Gene Hughes (Teresa) of Lebanon; one son-in-law, Rick Beaven of Lexington; three sisters, Marg LaFolette of Louisville, Judy Morris of Raywick and Debbie Wheatley of Lebanon; seven brothers, Kenny Hughes of High Point, N.C., Mac Hughes of Lexington, Richard Hughes of Raywick, Roger Hughes of St. Mary’s, Jerry Hughes of Calvary, Stevie Hughes of Louisville and Tommy Hughes of New Haven; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren;
A Mass of Christian Burial is noon Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, St. Francis with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Charles Walker, Rev. Joe Hemmerle and Rev. Jim Graf will concelebrate.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
