Obituary: Louise C. Rapier Thompson, 86, Bardstown

Louise C. Rapier Thompson, 86, of Bardstown, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Colonial Health and Rehab in funeral_lilyBardstown. She was born June 28, 1927, in Nelson County. She was a graduate of St. Catherine College and a former fifth-grade teacher at St. Joseph School. She was a former X-ray technician at Flaget Memorial Hospital, a secretary for Owens-Illinois and a member of St. Joseph Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph D. Rapier Sr.; her second husband, Joseph Arthur “Art” Thompson; her parents, John and Mary Theresa Yates Wimsatt; and three brothers, Leon Wimsatt, Johnny Wimsatt and Gene Wimsatt.

Survivors include five daughters, Fran (Bill) Hardin of Springfield, Rita (Ed) Valiant of Pittsburg, Pa., Charlotte (Pat) Price of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Linda (Millard) Sims of Bardstown, and Madeline (Wayne) Downs of Bardstown; five sisters, Josephine Edelen of Louisville, Marie Grigsby of Bardstown, Barbara (Carl) Nett of Elizabethtown, Mary Wimsatt of Bardstown, and Geri (John) Werkman of Bardstown;  two sons, Joseph D. Rapier Jr., of Panama City, Fla., and Mark (Brenda) Rapier of Bardstown; four brothers, Ed (Pauline) Wimsatt of Concord, N.H., Earl (Rosie) Wimsatt of Fairborne, Ohio, Bev (Mary Annette) Wimsatt of Bardstown and Arthur Wimsatt of Bardstown; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Bill Hammer as celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, and 8:30-11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014. at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy go to the Nelson County Community Clinic or St. Joseph School.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chad Hardin, Todd Hardin, Ryan Hardin, Joey Sims, Greg Waddell, Tommy Downs, Stephen Downs, Josh Rapier, Jonathon Rapier and Donovan Price, honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
