Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, 10 p.m. — The wintry mix of rain, sleet created an icy glaze over Nelson County Tuesday night, felling trees and tree limbs across the county.

Between 8-10 p.m., several trees and tree limbs were reported down in the area of KY 55 at US 62, on US62 near Bloomfield, and in the 6300 block of Boston Road. The Bardstown Fire Department was called to the 100 block of Murray’s Run Road for a report of a downed, arcing power line about 9:30 p.m. Firefighters determined the power line wasn’t down, but was arcing due to tree limbs. A Salt River Electric crew was called to handle the problem. Firefighters also responded to the 100 block of Jefferson Avenue in Presidential Estates about 8:30 p.m. for a report of power lines arcing on tree limbs.

The National Weather Service Tuesday night indicated Nelson County can anticipate up to 1/2-inch of ice accumulation overnight through Wednesday morning. Drivers should anticipate encountering icy road conditions, particularly on side streets and secondary roads.
