Firefighters battle bittler cold again at early morning Stonefield Way house fire

fireshieldFriday, Feb. 7, 2014, 7:30 a.m. — Firefighters from two departments battled a house fire in bitterly cold single-digit temperatures early Friday morning.

At just after 2 a.m., the Bardstown Fire Department was called to the area of Stonehouse Flats subdivision for a report of a house on fire. Firefighters found a home at 1009 Stonefield Way that had flames showing through the roof when they arrived. The Northeast Nelson Fire Department was called for additional manpower and to help haul water to fight the fire. The home’s occupants were believed to be out of state at the time of the fire. Firefighters gained control of the fire in about 30 minutes, and were on scene for another 2-1/2 hours.

Firefighters were called back to the fire scene about 30 minutes later to extinguish the fire when it rekindled. Nelson County EMS and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
