Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, 1:30 p.m. — The light snow that fell Saturday morning across Nelson County quickly created hazardous driving conditions that contributed to several injury accidents Saturday morning.
A two-vehicle accident in the 600 block of Bloomfield Road at 10 a.m. sent the 39-year-old female driver of one of the vehicles to the hospital with minor injuries that includes a head laceration, neck and hip pain.
Road conditions were also a factor in a head-on injury accident on High Grove hill involving a semi tractor-trailer truck hauling distillery slop and a Chevy Impala. The accident was reported at about 10:15 a.m. Due to the hazardous road conditions, police blocked northbound traffic at KY 480 until the accident was cleared up. The 53-year-old female driver of the Impala was transported by Nelson County EMS to Flaget Memorial Hospital complaining of right side rib and chest pain. While police had the roadway blocked, a vehicle slid off US31E into a ditch south of KY 480. Police requested a salt truck from the highway department to treat the roadways. The driver of the tractor-trailer refused treatment.
A 67-year-old woman was injured Saturday morning about 11:40 when the Ford Ranger she was in left New Haven Road south of Pioneer Pass and overturned. The Bardstown Fire Department was called to free both occupants due to the caved-in condition of the truck’s roof. The injured woman was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital by by Nelson County EMS with complaints of head and neck pain. Traffic on US31E south was blocked for about 40 minutes while the accident was cleaned up.
