STAFF REPORT
(UPDATED with Principal Shelly Hendricks’ One Call message) Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, 9:10 a.m. — Reports that Nelson County High School is under a lockdown due to a shooting or other gun violence at the school are untrue.
Anthony Orr, superintendent of Nelson County Schools, told WBRT listeners Friday morning before 9 a.m. that the school’s administrators did take precautions after students reported to adults that a student might bring a weapon to school today.
“Everybody is safe,” Orr said. “The staff at the high school did a great job of being proactive.”
The school brought in additional law enforcement to the school to investigate the report Friday morning. “There’s no credibility to the reports out there,” Orr said of rumors spreading on social media. ”
Orr said police have thoroughly investigated the report. “They’re confident there was no credible threat,” he said. City police units that responded to the high school left at 8:46 a.m.
NCHS Principal Shelly Hendricks sent a message to parents and guardians regarding the incident and school safety via One Call Now message at about 9:15 Friday morning.
