Obituary: Joseph Frank Murphy, 87, Lebanon

Joseph Frank Murphy, 87, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at funeral_flowerSpring View Hospital in Lebanon. He was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Marion County. He was a U.S. WW II Army Veteran, a retired farmer, and a member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lula Wather Murphy; his second wife, Mildred Shannon Murphy; two sons, Paul Murphy and Eddie Murphy; his parents, James T. and Mary Etta Able Murphy; three sisters, Irene Daughtery, Lula Hughes and Mary Price; seven brothers, Joe Paul Murphy, Sam Murphy, Bill Murphy, Charlie Murphy, Bernard Murphy, Lawrence Murphy and Vernon Murphy.

Survivors include eight daughters, Rita (Nick) Thomas of Calvary, Mary Lou (Leonard) Spalding, Glenda (Carl) Spalding and Myrtle Garrett, all of Lebanon, Gloria (Joe) Borders of Elizabethtown, Lucy (Kenneth) Gobey of Perryville, Christine (Mike) Sisk of Estill Fork, Ala., and Twila (Joey) Sallee, of Jessetown; six sons, Louis (Diane) Murphy of Rosedale, Ind., Robert (Mary Ettie) Murphy and Allen (Brenda) Murphy, both of Lebanon, George (Barbara) Murphy of Campbellsville, Lawrence Murphy of Louisville and Roland Murphy of Stanford; two stepchildren, Virgie (Jay) Johnson of Danville and Mike (Kathy) Shannon of Lebanon; 37 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Marion County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors.

Visitations is after 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at the Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Friday with Deacon Dennis May and the Rev. Troy Mattingly.

Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon is in charge of arrangements.
