Woman seriously injured in single-car crash on Balltown Road
Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 — An elderly woman suffer life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Balltown Road at about 2:50 p.m.
The Bardstown Fire Department responded to free the victim from her vehicle. A medical helicopter was requested to respond, but they were unable to fly due to high winds. The woman lost consciousness while EMS was with her. Two firefighters accompanied the EMS crew to assist with CPR on the way to Flaget Memorial Hospital.
As fire units were leaving the accident scene, Unit 32, a 2006 Ferrara rescue truck, was run off the road on Balltown Road by an oncoming semi tractor-trailer pulling a grain trailer. A wrecker was required to get the truck back onto the roadway. One firefighter was transported by Nelson County EMS from the scene complaining of back pain.
