UPDATED: Local candidates filing to run for city, county school board offices

Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, 12:10 p.m. (UPDATED 4 p.m. with new candidate filing information) — Though the deadline for the county’s nonpartisan races isn’t until 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, several candidates for office have already filed their paperwork for city mayoral, commission and county school board races.
NEW HAVEN BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS. Jane Masse, of Main Street in New Haven, has filed for the office of city commissioner. Masse filed her paperwork Friday, Feb. 21. She is the first commission candidate to file for office.
Incumbent Commissioner Chris Cecil filed today, Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, to keep his seat on the New Haven Board of Commissioners. The other current members of the four-member board include Fred DeWitt, Don Cecil and Jeff Rogers.
NELSON COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD. New Hope Road resident David Norman filed for the District 1 seat on the county school board on Friday, Jan. 31. He is the first candidate to file for the open seat. Longtime District 1 board member Frank Hall will not seek reelection in November.
CITY OF BARDSTOWN. Bardstown Mayor Bill Sheckles filed for re-election on Wednesday, Jan. 8th. So far he is the only candidate to file for mayor in the county.
The deadline for nonpartisan races — city council, mayor, city commission and school board — is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12. Candidates who wish to run as independents must file their statement of candidacy by 4 p.m. April 1.
