Obituary: Carl Winfred Holt, 88, formerly of Chaplin
Carl Winfred Holt, 88, formerly of Chaplin, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. He was born July 31, 1925, to Edward and Elizabeth Satterly Holt in Chaplin. He was a 1944 graduate of Chaplin High School and a member of Chaplin Christian Church. He retired after a 35 year career selling insurance primarily with American Republic Insurance Company. While employed there he achieved the position of “Sales Immortal” and also was on the “Presidents Council”.
He was a lifetime University of Kentucky basketball fan and proudly served in the Committee of 101, a UK athletics booster and fan organization. He also loved to cook for friends and family and was well known for his wonderful sense of humor, which was shared with any and everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Howard Wayne Holt; and three brothers, Harold Holt, Virgil Holt and Ernest Lee Holt.
He is survived by three daughters, Trina (Bill) Elliott of Danville, Kathy (Nicky) Blandford of Lebanon and Carla Holt of Lexington; five sons, Harold Holt, Gary (Diane) Holt, Spencer (Corinne) Holt, all of Louisville, Mike (Angela) Holt of Lebanon, and Alan Holt of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Mary Evelyn (Tommy) Baker of Chaplin; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Elaine Yates.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Bro. Brent Baker officiating. Burial is in the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
The Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
