STAFF REPORT
Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, 11:58 p.m. — The Northeast Nelson Fire Department responded Thursday to several reported field fires in Nelson and Anderson County.
Early Thursday afternoon the Northeast Nelson Fire Department responded to a report of a field fire in the 2000 block of Love Ridge Road. Firefighters found an acre of dry grass and broom sage burning, the blaze fanned by afternoon winds. Firefighters contained the fire to prevent its spread and extinguished it.
As firefighters were wrapping up operations on Love Ridge Road, they were summoned at about 3:30 Thursday afternoon to provide mutual aid to firefighters battling a series of field fires in Anderson County. Firefighters provided additional manpower and equipment to contain and extinguish the fires.
At about 7:20 Thursday evening, the Bardstown Fire Department responded to a reported large field fire on Bloomfield Road. The location was later determined to be in the 5000 block of Lawrenceburg Road and in the Northeast Nelson Fire coverage area. The Northeast Nelson firefighters were asked to respond. They determined the fire was a controlled burn reported earlier by the property owner to Nelson County Dispatch. No action was taken.
