Obituary: William Herbert Bowman, 98, Bloomfield
William Herbert Bowman, 98, of Bloomfield, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at Colonial Health and Rehab in Bardstown. He was a Nelson County native, a self-employed brick mason, and a farmer who loved to do woodworking. He was a member of the Chaplin Baptist Church where he was the oldest member. While a resident of Colonial Health and Rehab, he was fondly known to many as “Pappy.”
He was the son of the late William Culvin and Sallie Ann Taylor Bowman. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ora Lee Prewitt and Lilie Mae Hobbs.
He is survived by his wife of 80 years, Pearl Martin Bowman; one daughter, Linda (Kent) Akers of Bardstown; two grandchildren, Alan Akers of Evanston, Ill., and Brandon Akers of Louisville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Bro. Heath Woolman and his nephew, Bro. James Norris Prewitt officiating. Burial is in the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Chaplin Baptist Church Building Fund.
The Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
