Wednesday, March 5, 2014, 10 p.m. — The proposed changes to the rules governing Sympson Lake will most affect sympsonlakemappleasure boaters and those who enjoy personal water craft.

The proposed ordinance limits boats from creating a wake, which is a limit of 5 mph what applies to all areas of the lake.

The new rules would expressly prohibit jet skis, hydroplanes, racing boats or hulls.

The new guidelines would limit the use of the lake and surrounding area to daylight hours, allowing users to enter the lake one hour before sunrise and depart one hour after sunset.

The cost for annual boating permits would increase under the new ordinance. Permits for county residents — currently $10 — would jump to $50 per year. Out-of-county residents would see their permit fee increase from $25 to $100.

As in the past, fishing privileges for the occupants of the boat would be covered by the boating permits.

The changes also propose increases for fines assessed for violating the rules. The minimum fine would be increased from $25 to $100; the maximum fine would increase from $100 to $500.

PUBLIC INPUT REQUESTED. The Bardstown City Council’s Water and Sewer committee is seeking comment from individuals regarding the proposed ordinance. Individuals who wish to comment are invited to submit their written comments or opinions to the committee by 5 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014.
