Tuesday, March 11, 2014, 11:55 p.m. — The Bardstown City Council gave final approval of the hiring of an additional Customer Service Representative at Bardstown City Hall at its meeting Tuesday night.

Mike Abel, the city’s chief financial officer, explained at an earlier meeting that helping new and upgrading customers for digital cable TV is a time-intensive process that can tie up a single CSR for an extended amount of time. A third full-time CSR is needed in order to better serve walk-in customers and reduce wait times.

HISTORIC REVIEW BOARD. The council gave unanimous approval of three certificates of appropriateness recommendations from the Historic Review Board.

The first was to extend a fence at the Five Star Food Mart at 122 E. Stephen Foster Ave, the second was the addition of a sun room at 111 N. First St, and the second was to repair or replace two signs at 112 W. Broadway.

In other business, the council:

— heard a Safety Committee report that Nelson County EMS and the city fire departments are exploring the idea of operating under one roof;

— accepted a report from Barbie Bryant, cemetery sextant, that she is going to consolidate the existing certificates of deposit into two CDs that will be held for future cemetery maintenance once it is full. As the CDs mature, the money will be placed into an interest-bearing account until several can be combined, Bryant said.

— The council unanimously approved the franchise agreement with Bluegrass Networks LLC to allow Bluegrass Cellular to route a fiber-optic cable on city right-of-way; and

— approved first reading of an ordinance that will allow Terry’s Wine & Spirits, 610 Bloomfield Road, to conduct on-site tastings.

UP NEXT. The next Bardstown City Council meeting is 7 p.m. March 25, 2014.
