Juvenile faces attempted murder charge after disarming Spencer deputy jailer

Wednesday, March 12, 2014, 10 p.m. — A Spencer County deputy jailer was disarmed and held at gunpoint by a juvenile prisoner the deputy was transporting back to Hardin County Wednesday afternoon on the BG Parkway about 4:30 p.m.
Nelson County Dispatch received numerous calls from motorist about a Spencer County prisoner transport vehicle with the door open parked so part of the vehicle was in the median and part was in the fast lane westbound at the 14 mile marker of the Blue Grass Parkway. Another caller reported seeing a male subject wearing orange pointing a gun at the officer while keeping him in a choke hold.
According to local media reports, a passing truck driver stopped to assist. He disarmed the juvenile, broke the choke hold and held the juvenile in custody until officers arrived.
The juvenile will likely face charges that include attempted murder.
A Nelson County deputy sheriff reported the juvenile was in custody at 4:51 p.m. Nelson deputies were joined in the response to this incident by Bardstown Police officers, the Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife.
