Obituary: Joseph Paul Abell, 89, Lebanon

Joseph Paul Abell, 89, of Lebanon, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Village of Lebanon. He was born May funeral_dove22, 1924, in Marion County. He was retired from General Electric and was a member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Jane Thomas Abell; his second wife, Anna Louise Thomas Reynolds Abell; his parents, Henry Paul and Mary Bernice Spalding Abell; infant children Francis Lonnie Abell, Robert Scott Abell and Robin Annette Abell; three sisters, Gladys Mudd, Helen Jane Abell and Mary Rita Lee; and two brothers, Don Abell and Jim Abell.

Survivors include eight daughters, Bonnie (Wheatley) Hamilton of Springfield, Betty (Mike) Johnston of Bardstown, Carolyn (Jimmy) Keene of Louisville, Frances (Terry) Thompson and Jennifer (Michael) Jarboe, both of Lebanon, Sandy (Walter) Leachman and Judy (Bob) O’Brien, both of Lexington, and Rosie (Tim) Spalding of Calvary; one son, Joe Paul (Marcie) Abell of Lebanon;

five stepsons, Michael Alton Reynolds of Mount Washington, Jeffrey Thomas (Judy) Reynolds and Robbie (Jane) Reynolds, both of Bardstown, Kenneth Spalding Reynolds of Louisville, James T. (Kathy) Reynolds of St. Joe; three stepdaughters, Mary Lou (Keith) Brock and Martha Alice Mattingly, both of Lebanon and Mary Rita (Billy) Nally of Loretto; three sisters, Adeline Thomas, of Calvary, Doris Ann (Doyle) Downs of Raywick and Eloise Detherage of Lawrenceburg; 22 grandchildren, 13 stepgrandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 20 stepgreat-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Finley celebrated by the Rev. George Illikkal. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Sunday by Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

The Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon is in charge of arrangements.
