Obituary: Sr. Charles Maureen Walker, S.L., 94, Nerinx

Sr. Charles Maureen Walker, S.L., 94, of Nerinx, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary.

SR. CHARLES MAUREEN WALKER, S.L.

She was born Oct. 11, 1919, in Loretto. She entered religious life in 1939 and received her final vows in 1944. She graduated from A. B. Webster College, Webster, Missouri in 1951 and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from St. Louis University in 1963.

Her assignments and ministries were located in Missouri, Ohio and Illinios. Locally, she served as principal and superior of St. Augustine Grade School in Lebanon from 1966-77. She retired to the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary in 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Thomas and Sarah O’Daniel Walker; three sisters, Lillian Murray, Louise Ball and Dora Mae Farley; and two brothers, Raymond Walker and Buddy Walker.

Survivors include three sisters, Susan Hughes of Bardstown, Nell Hughes of Loretto, and Marty Thompson (Donald) of Louisville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Loretto Motherhouse Church in Nerinx with burial to follow in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

A wake service is 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Motherhouse.

Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
