Sunday evening freezing rain, sleet make county roads slick, hazardous
Sunday, March 17, 2014, 11:45 p.m. — The freezing rain and sleet that fell Sunday evening turned many of the county’s roads into driving hazards. Police responded to 10 reports of non-injury and injury accidents beginning between 7 and 8 p.m. Sunday.
At about 7:18 p.m., police responded a possible injury accident on Loretto Road, KY 49, down by the old distillery site. A 2006 white GMC Denali slid off the roadway due to the icy conditions. Police reported no one was injured and asked dispatchers to advise the road department salt was needed on the roadway.
At 7:24 p.m., police responded to a reported non-injury accident on Louisville Road, US31E, in the curve in High Grove involving a white Infiniti and a black Mercedes-Benz. The accident required shutting down the roadway while the vehicles were recovered.
A non-injury accident was reported at 7:26 p.m. involving a Gold VW Jetta and a black BMW. At the same time, a homeowner in the 3400 block of Lawrenceburg Road reported a red vehicle slid off the road, possibly hit a tree and torn up his yard.
At 7:51 p.m. a reported possible injury accident at the 11 mile marker turned out to be a driver waiting for a wrecker after his vehicle slid off the icy roadway.
Just before 8 p.m., police and Nelson County EMS responded to an injury in the 5400 block of Bloomfield Road for an overturned SUV. EMS transported the 17-year-old driver of the vehicle to Flaget Memorial Hospital with arm bruises and complaining of arm and head pain. While the EMS squad was enroute to Flaget, a vehicle spun out in front of them while driving on West John Rowan.
A two-vehicle non-injury accident was reported at 8:21 p.m. in the 3900 block of New Shepherdsville Road (KY 245) involving a Mazda passenger car and a Toyota Camry.
At 8:33, police were unable to locate the vehicles involved in a non-injury accident reported at 7:54 p.m. at Spencer Mattingly Lane and East John Rowan Blvd.
Police at 11:45 p.m. were reporting roadways in some areas still slick and hazardous.
