KY 84 bridge still closed, despite motorists efforts to cross it

Friday, April 15, 2011, 3:50 p.m. — A Nelson County deputy radioed dispatchers to check on the status of the bridge on KY 84 near Howardstown at the Nelson-LaRue County line. There was one lane of traffic open on the bridge and cars were traveling across it. Dispatchers contacted the state Transportation Cabinet, who reported the bridge was still closed “and could fall through at any minute.” The officer advised that a better method of closing the bridge was needed. Dispatchers were asked to contact state Highway Department to replace the barricades.

The 176-foot bridge was closed to traffic Thursday after it was determined the high waters had eroded one of the bridge’s piers.
