STAFF REPORT
Thursday, March 20, 2014, 9 p.m. — Thomas Nelson teacher and head girls’ soccer coach Paul Brooks has stepped down from the position according to Principal Wes Bradley.
After spending two years laying the foundation for one of the most successful programs in the area, Brooks will focus his energies on pursuing a doctoral degree.
“We are proud of the program the Coach Brooks has established at Thomas Nelson, Bradley said in a press release. “Mr. Brooks brought a wealth of professional and collegiate experience to our Lady Generals and it was evident on the field.”
Athletic director Sara Thurmond noted that “Coach Brooks brought our girls soccer program to life. He established many firsts here and we will continue to build from the strong start that he was able to provide for the Thomas Nelson Lady General soccer program. We are very appreciative of the time and commitment he gave to our athletic program as a whole.”
“I feel honored to have served in the capacity of inaugural Head Girls Soccer Coach,” Brooks said. “With the enthusiasm of the players, along with the support of some excellent coaches, athletic and administrative staff, the Girls Soccer program has attained in two years what many take decades to build.”
“I’m excited to continue to offer my support as a loyal supporter of TNHS Lady Generals Soccer, albeit from the sidelines. The rigorous demands of my selection to a research-based Ph.D program leave me with no other option than to leave the program in other, equally capable hands.” Brooks said.
