City firefighters called Saturday to grass fires, possible illegal burn

Saturday, March 22, 2014, 10 p.m. — The Bardstown Fire Department had a busy Saturday responding to minor fires in the department’s service area.
The fire department was dispatched at about 1:30 Saturday afternoon to field fire reported at an address in the 3000 block of Old Nazareth Road. Firefighters found the fire nearing a structure near the intersection of New Shepherdsville Road (KY 245) and Old Nazareth Road. The Northeast Nelson Fire Department was called to provide manpower and equipment to assist in fighting the fire. The state Division of Forestry also assisted. Firefighters contained the fire and protected structures threatened by the fire, and stopped it from spreading to an adjacent corn field. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
At about 4:35 Saturday afternoon, the Bardstown Fire Department was called to 829 Bartley Ave. for a report of a fire behind an abandoned home. When firefighters arrived the fire was mostly out. The fire was extinguished and firefighters wetted down the area. They were on scene for about 20 minutes.
Firefighters were dispatched to an address in the 1000 block of Cliffwood Drive at 6:30 p.m. for a report of an individual burning trash in violation of local ordinances. Firefighters found a small bonfire at the address that had nearly burned itself.
