STAFF REPORT

Tuesday, March 25, 2014, 10 a.m. — Bardstown Police arrested a Bardstown woman Monday on drug-related charges in connection with an apparent break-in attempt at a home on Atlantic Court.

Willa Marie Stivers, 37, of Bardstown, was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree; possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia in the wake of the Bardstown Police Department’s investigation.

At about 5 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the Atlantic Court home for a report of shots being fired during what appeared to be a break-in attempt. An eyewitness said two men left the home and got into a white Buick SUV.

Once on the scene, police found shell casings and blood on the sidewalk and the front door of the home was damaged. Police searched the area for suspects and a possible gunshot victim.

While searching for a victim in the home, police spotted narcotics, drug paraphernalia, a 9mm handgun, and detected the smell of marijuana inside the home. A search warrant was obtained to search the residence.

While officers waited on a search warrant, Scotty Sheckles, 34, of Bardstown, attempted to climb over a backyard fence in an attempt to retrieve narcotics hidden inside the home. He had a large facial laceration and was still bleeding. Nelson County EMS transported Sheckles directly from the scene to University Hospital.

The search of the home turned up a 9mm handgun, about $29,000 in cash, scales and about 400 grams of cocaine with a street value of about $40,000.

The investigation also revealed that a 10-year-old child was present during the burglary/home invasion and was placed with a family member prior to officers’ arrival.

The investigation is continuing and further arrests are expected. If you have any information regarding this incident please contact the Bardstown Police (502) 348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch, (502) 348-3211.
