47th annual Antique Show & Sale returns April 5-6 to NCHS
STAFF REPORT
Wednesday, March 26, 2014 — The always popular Historic Bardstown Antique Show & Sale returns for its 47th year on April 5 and 6 at Nelson County High School.
The show, which was created by Bardstown resident Don Comer and family to bring a unique mix of quality antique dealers under one roof, continues that tradition. Don and his wife Mary Ann still attend the show as dealers. The show is one of the region’s most-anticipated sign of the return of Spring.
The show’s hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 5 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, April 6.
The show has been voted one of “Country Living’s Best,” and features 100 top antique dealers from around the country. Visitors are often lined up at the door when the show opens each day.
One reason for the show’s success and longevity is the quality of its exhibitors and keeping an eye on trends in the antiques marketplace.
“Today’s antique market is different from years ago,” promoter Rod Lich said of the annual event. “While there are avid collectors, the new buyer is not necessarily a collector, but more of a seeker of that unique piece that catches their eye, fits their taste, or serves a functional purpose.”
Lich said he has enjoyed continuing the tradition of quality the Comer family started with their first show and sale at Nelson County High School.
“We’ve had a terrific relationship with the Bardstown community in presenting this show, and we look forward every year to welcoming return customers and meeting folks who are newcomers seeking uniqu items and furnishings,” Lich said.
The NCHS girls’ basketball team will provide concessions, with proceeds going to the team. The NCHS band boosters will provide dealers with help setting up before the show and tearing down afterward.
