GABRIEL FRANCIS ‘GUBER’ SPALDING

Gabriel Francis “Guber” Spalding, 62, of the St. Joe community of Marion County, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at University Hospital in Louisville.

He was born Oct. 31, 1951, in Marion County. He was a farmer and a Catholic by faith. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Ham” and Marjorie Sniffen Spalding; his step-mother, Cokie Spalding; one brother, Ricky Spalding; one nephew, Joey Bickett; and one niece, Michaela Zoeller.

Survivors include two daughters, Melanie Gordon (Tommy) of St. Joe and Stephanie Spalding of St. Mary; one son, Brad Spalding (Carrie) of Campbellsville; three sisters, Marie Caldwell (Charlie) of Campbellsville, Susie O’Daniel and Mary Kennedy Newcome (Leo), both of St. Joe; three brothers, Hammy Spalding (Kathy) and Pat Spalding (Edna), both of St. Joe and Sammy Spalding (Joyce) of Raywick; one sister-in-law, Grace Spalding; six grandchildren, Erin Thompson, Kelly G. Cecil, Leslie R. Sauter, Phoenix Spalding, Asher Spalding, Scarlett Spalding; two great-grandchildren, Ally Cecil and Luke Sauter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with burial to follow in the St. Joe cemetery. Deacon Joseph R. Dant will officiate.

Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Mattingly Funeral Home.

Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
