New two-year road plan includes funding for Nelson County projects

Tuesday, April 15, 2014, 10 p.m. — Funding for several Nelson County road projects are part of the $4.1 billion two-KY_Transportation_Cabinetyear road construction plan approved Tuesday by the Kentucky General Assembly.

The new plan includes funding for construction on the northern section of US31E, the Louisville Road, from the Whitney Stables area north to the Salt River. It also funds scoping studies for a western bypass between US62 and KY 245, and for reconstruction of US150 from Springfield to Bardstown.

A scoping study is a process that examines a transportation problem and determines alternatives that will be effective in solving the problems.

The new two-year budget also completes funding for four bridge replacements in Nelson County, including three in the Bloomfield area (Simpson Creek south of Bloomfield, Hinkle Creek and KY48 west of Bloomfield) and one in Cox’s Creek (Mobley Mill over Froman Creek).

Disagreements over the bill between the Democratic House and Republican Senate jeopardized the bill’s passage late Monday. A compromise version of House Bill 237 was passed Tuesday without discussion.

The bill keeps funding intact for the Ohio River bridges project, and to convert some downtown Louisville streets from one-way to two-way traffic.
