Sazerac to boost production capacity, add 50 jobs at Barton 1792 Distillery

Thursday, April 17, 2014, 9:35 a.m. — Sazerac, the parent company of the Barton2Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, has announced it will spend $71 million for expansions at its three Kentucky distilleries.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, the planned improvements at the Barton distillery include new equipment to boost production capacity along with the addition of 50 full-time jobs.

The improvements at all three distilleries are aimed at accommodating anticipated growth and demand for Kentucky Bourbon, Sazerac said.

Sazerac is a family owned spirits company headquartered in New Orleans. In addition to the Barton distillery, Sazerac owns the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort and The Glenmore distillery in Owensboro.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority has approved tax incentives totaling $7.4 million for the projects.

A new 83,000-square-foot automated warehouse is planned for the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort which will add up to 40 full-time jobs.

At The Glenmore Distillery, planned improvements include a 223,000-square-foot automated distribution center, improvements to existing rickhouses, and the addition of 20 full-time jobs.

Gov. Steve Beshear welcomed the announcement and said the expansion points to the increased worldwide popularity of Kentucky Bourbon.
