SONJA ‘NOOKIE’ DOWNS

Sonja “Nookie” Downs, 47, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in Bloomfield. She was born Oct. 18, 1966, in Bardstown. She was a newspaper carrier for The Kentucky Standard and Louisville Courier-Journal. She was a 1985 graduate of Nelson County High School where she played softball and basketball. She was a member of Open Door Christian Center in Bloomfield.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Brook Williams; two grandmothers, Elizabeth Moxley and Elizabeth Thompson; two grandfathers, John Pat Williams I and Sun Downs; and one uncle, Alfred Wiggington.

She is survived by her father, John Williams of Fairfield; one sister, Tammy Williams of Bardstown; two brothers, John “Reese” Downs of Woodlawn and Michael Williams of Bardstown; four nieces, Kaylin Williams, Brook Williams, Rozlyn Young and Taylar Williams; two nephews, Joseph Downs and John Mahoney; and two great-nieces, Brooklyn Lee and Aniyah Warren.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Open Door Christian Center in Bloomfield with burial in the Bloomfield Cemetery. Pastor Mavis Bennett will officiate.

Visitation is noon-1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the church.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
