KSP investigating two deaths at home in the Botland community

ksp600STAFF REPORT

Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 12:45 p.m. (UPDATED 4 p.m.) — The Kentucky State Police are investigating the deaths of two people in the Botland community at a home at 5120 Springfield Road, but remain unsure if the incident is a double murder or a murder-suicide.

At about 10:30 Tuesday morning, Nelson County Dispatch received reports of an adult and a teenager found at the Springfield Road home, both apparently deceased. KSP confirmed Tuesday afternoon that two victims died of trauma from their injuries. The identities of the victims and cause of death has not been released by state police. PVA records show the home was owned by Kathy Hardin Netherland, who neighbors say lived at the home with her daughter Samantha Netherland. Unoffficial reports say that Kathy Netherland and her daughter Samantha, 14, were the victims.

Social media posts expressing visitors’ grief began filling Kathy Netherlands’ Facebook page earlier this afternoon, mentioning the loss of her husband Bob Netherland last July from cancer.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and two Nelson County EMS ambulances were initially called to the scene at 10:30 Tuesday morning. After deputies arrived on scene they canceled the response by EMS.

According to a Post 4 dispatcher in Elizabethtown, KSP Trooper Binkley is in charge of the investigation.

Check back for more details as they become available.
