Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 11:55 p.m. — The Bardstown City Council approved four requests related to utility services at its regular meeting Tuesday night.

TANNERY CREEK. The owners of the property located between South First Street and the Old Kentucky Home Country Club — known at one time as Tannery Hill — requested city utilities for an eight residential lot development being planned for the area.

The development plan for what is now known as Tannery Creek includes large areas of green space, including 15 acres that will not be developed, city engineer Jessica Filiatreau told the council.

Bardstown Mayor Bill Sheckles suggested that the developers make sure those who buy property in the Tannery Creek development understand the possible disadvantages of living in an area whose access road includes a fairly steep grade.

LEWIS APARTMENTS. The owner of the former Adventures in Gardening property has planned a 36-unit apartment complex for the property that once was an auto parts junkyard. The owners seek city utilities for the complex.

TEWELL CREEK. Last year, the City of Bardstown took over the former Lebanon Junction water main. Some property owners in the Tewell Creek area have requested the extension of the water line in that ends short of these properties in order to provide them with city water.

CEDAR CREEK QUARRY. The quarry is seeking to relocate part of the former Lebanon Junction water line in order for the landowners to quarry the property in the area where the line currently runs.

UTILITY DECISION. The City of Bardstown and other in-state municipally owned utilities have received an extension on the deadline for their decisions regarding the choice of wholesale electrical supplier. At the previous council meeting in April, the council met in executive session with a supplier to discuss future energy needs.

According to Sheckles, the city will meet with other representatives today to discuss its options regarding electrical wholesale supplier.

EAGLE SCOUT HONORED. Luke Wathen, the 14-year-old son of Rhonda and Danny Wathen of Botland, was honored for the work he did on his Eagle Scout project, which was to refurbish the gazebo in the city cemetery. The work included repairing the latticework, benches and paint. He was presented with a certificate honoring him for attaining the highest rank available in Scouting.

SAR’S 125TH ANNIVERSARY. Sheckles welcomed members of the Sons of the American Revolution to the meeting and presented them with a proclamation honoring their 125th anniversary and declaring Wednesday, April 30, 2014, as Sons of the American Revolution Day.

CITY ATTORNEY RESIGNING. Mayor Bill Sheckles announced that City Attorney Tom Donan is resigning his position effective April 30. Donan was presented with a University of Louisville cap and an football autographed by Coach Bobby Petrino. Sheckles said he would bring a recommendation for a new city attorney at a future council meeting.

In other business, the council reappointed Larry Tanner to a four-year term on the Bardstown Housing Authority board.
