JAMES MARION ‘CEDAR’ EDELEN

James Marion “Cedar” Edelen, 86, of Bardstown died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville. He was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Bardstown. He was owner of Red Cedar Products Inc. and a partner with Red Cedar Truck Lines. He was an employee of Heaven Hill Distilleries. He attended St. Joseph Prep and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, the Kentucky Forest Industries Association and St. Thomas Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Wathen Edelen; his parents, Miles and Rose Edelen; three brothers, Bobby Edelen, Charles Edelen and Paul Edelen; and five sisters, Nelson Hite, Loretta Blair, Marty Spalding, Dot Wagoner and Eva Brown.

He is survived by four daughters, Barbara (Emile) Hawkins, Kathy (Paul) Brotzge, Martha (Jeff) Soley, all of Louisville and Trudi (Chris) Muller of New Jersey; one sister, Lila (Gerald) Farnsworth of Bardstown; and six grandchildren.

His funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Hopper will officiate.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, and 9-10:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Barlow Funeral Home. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.).

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
