EUGENE NEWTON

Eugene Newton, 84, of Holy Cross, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at his home. He was born March 17, 1930, in Holy Cross. He was a retired farmer and former employee of Heaven Hill Distilleries in Bardstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Marion and Lula Catherine Cissell Newton; two sons, Wayne Newton and Glenn Newton; five sisters, Elizabeth Nalley, Alice McIntyre, Ursula Riggs, Lula Taylor and Anna Marie Newton; five brothers, Robert Newton, Charlie Newton, J.P. Newton, Tommy Newton and Bud Newton.

Survivors include his companion, Jean Lakes; three daughters, Karen Dean (Steve McCoy) and Debbie Blair (Bobby), both of St. Francis and Lou Smith (Ike) of Greenbrier; two sons, Bill Newton (Vickie) and Gene Newton (Missy Miles), both of St. Francis; two sisters, Dorothy Newton of Bardstown and Arletha Miles of Holy Cross; two sisters-in-law, Rosie Newton of Bardstown and Brenda Newton of Holy Cross; the mother of his children, Betty Newton of Bardstown; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and his caregiver, Robin Miles.

The Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3560 N. St. Francis Road, Loretto, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle was the celebrant.

Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, was in charge of arrangements.
