Obituary: Margaret Houghlin, 97, Bloomfield
Margaret Houghlin, 97, of Bloomfield, died Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Sansbury Care Center at St. Catharine.
She was the former Margaret Rogers, a native of Spencer County and was born April 13, 1917, to Oliver Merrifield and Mallye Hatchett Rogers.
She and her husband founded Houghlin Funeral Home in 1951 in Bloomfield. She faithfully served her community for 54 years as a licensed funeral director. She was the organist for the funeral home and her love of music reflected her caring for those she was serving. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the East Fork Homemakers, a member of the Bloomfield Baptist Church where she served as church organist for many years. She was a woman of great faith and put God first in her life, followed closely by her family and friends who she loved and cherished dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Houghlin; one sister, Anna Elizabeth Cornell; and two brothers, Harvey Rogers and Eugene Rogers.
She is survived by one son, RayField “Field” Houghlin; three granddaughters, Rebecca Margaret Houghlin, Kristen Rayann Houghlin, and Mary Katherine Houghlin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at the Bloomfield Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Carwile and Bro. Leland Parks officiating. Burial is in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Bloomfield Baptist Church.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Bloomfield Baptist Church Building Fund. Because of my mothers deep love for her friends and family, all those attending her service, please consider yourselves as an honorary pallbearer.
