Obituary: Thomas Raphael ‘Ray’ Ruley, 73, Louisville

Thomas Raphael “Ray” Ruley, 73, of Louisville, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. He was born Nov. 10, 1940, in the Dant Station community of Marion County. He was a former funeral_doveemployee of Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company in Louisville and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Cora Elizabeth Kelty Ruley; one son, Thomas Kevin Ruley; and three brothers, Robert Stuart “Cokie” Ruley, Charles Donald “Donnie” Ruley and Joseph Edward “Pete” Ruley.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeanie Ruley of New Haven; one son, Jeff Ruley of Clarksville, Ind.; three sisters, Betty O’Flynn (Pat) of Louisville, Linda Walls (Tony) and Phyllis Williams (Rich), both of Mount Washington; five brothers, Carl Ruley (Shirley) of Bardstown, Larry Cecil (Janet), Dean Cecil (Brenda) and Marvin Cecil, all of Dant Station, and Wayne Cecil (Nancy) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Justin Scott Ruley, Jessica Ruley and Debbie Williams; seven great-grandchildren; and his former wife and best friend, Doris Waltz of Clarksville, Ind.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, St. Francis, with the Rev. Joe Hall celebrating. Burial is in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
