Three local high school seniors receive CKCF scholarships to attend ECTC

Monday, June 2, 2014, 2 p.m. — Three high school seniors in Nelson County have been awarded Central Kentucky Community Foundation (CKCF) scholarships to attend Elizabethtown Community & Technical College in the fall.

The scholarship recipients include Elijah Brooks, son of Jim and Tammy Brooks of Cox’s Creek; Victoria Lynn Downs of Bardstown, daughter of Brad and Larissa Hamilton; and Ashley Nichole Conover, daughter of daughter of Rick and Terri Conover of Shepherdsville.

Brooks and Downs are seniors at Nelson County High School. Conover is a senior at Bethlehem High School.

A total of 24 scholarships were awarded by the CKCF to area high school seniors to attend ECTC this fall.

The foundation began giving scholarships 50 years ago when then Elizabethtown Community College opened in order to help students afford to attend the college. During this time, more than 50 local businesses and individuals have given to this fund.

The foundation’s ECTC scholarships are part of the 72 scholarships being awarded by CKCF this year. The awards total around $100,000 and go to 55 students at 10 different area high schools.

The Central Kentucky Community Foundation is the philanthropic focal point in the region, serving as a resource, leader and catalyst to people who wish to improve life in their community.
