Tour Barktown Rescue’s new shelter in Boston at open house Saturday
STAFF REPORT
Friday, June 6, 2014 –– Barktown Rescue is celebrating the grand opening of their new “no-kill” animal shelter, formerly the Old Boston Elementary School, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, June 7, at 295 Petersburg Rd in Boston. The public is invited to visit the new 3,000 sq ft shelter, meet some of the adorable, adoptable animals under their care, shop their Yard Sale (proceeds of which benefit Barktown), and enjoy refreshments donated by various volunteers.
Barktown Rescue is in the final stages of completing renovations to the old school building and grounds, making it a safe, suitable shelter for abandoned, stray and surrendered animals rescued each day in and around Bardstown & Nelson County. The overflow of adoptable pets resides with Foster families in the area.
Founded in 2009, Barktown Rescue has placed over 1,600 dogs and puppies into loving homes. Their largest expense is the vet care for the animals that are rescued. Pets cannot be adopted until they are spayed or neutered, and often additional vet expenses are incurred for sick or injured animals
Barktown encourages pet owners to help control the pet population by having their pets spayed or neutered. Taking efforts one step further, Barktown helps provide funds for pet owners who cannot afford to alter their pets.
Barktown Rescue is a volunteer-run, 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. Monetary donations and fair market value of items donated to Barktown are tax deductible. For more information about Barktown Rescue and pets available for adoption, visit www.barktownrescue.org.
