Tuesday, June 10, 2014, 1:30 p.m. — The Nelson County woman charged with murder in the April 2013 shooting death of her boyfriend has entered an Alford plea to a lesser charge of manslaughter in the second-degree.

According to Nelson County Circuit Court records, Susan C. Marlow, 49, entered the plea Monday in court. In the plea agreement, prosecutors recommended a seven-year sentence, and stipulated that Marlow must stay out of Nelson County for five years following her release from prison.

In an Alford plea, the accused person denies committing the crime, but recognizes that prosecutors could likely prove their case and achieve a conviction.

Marlow was indicted in May 2013 for the murder of her boyfriend, James “Marcy” Thomas at a home on Plum Run Road. Marlow’s final sentencing is set for Aug. 7, 2014.
